This research and practice process was fuelled by a powerful sense of unfamiliarity with the objects that permeate my daily life. I aimed to reconceive and familiarise myself with these items, dissecting and reassembling them to invigorate my understanding of “things”, inspired by Heidegger's notion of "Nähe".
I selected the cup as a study object due to its ubiquity, which presented an opportunity to understand a single object in-depth to extrapolate that understanding to other objects.
One question I explored was how a human might satisfy the desires of a cup. This lead to the question: could we consider and reciprocate these objects' desires correctly?
My main points of interest included the relationships between objects, their means of communication, the conveyance of information, and the intrinsic essence of things.
